Why choose underfloor heating?

It’s very straightforward and affordable to install underfloor heating (UFH) in a new build. For a similar price to a traditional radiator system, you can benefit from far superior heating that also offers complete design freedom and the luxurious feel of warm floors underfoot. As a low-temperature heating system, UFH is incredibly efficient in the well-insulated environment of a new build, using little energy, and is also perfectly suited to renewable heat sources, like heat pump.

EASY TO INSTALL

Underfloor heating is seamlessly installed as part of the build process. in fact it is easier and quicker to fit in a new build than a conventional radiators system.

IT’S AFFORDABLE

UFH is great value in a new build project. This is because just the core components are required in comparison to a retrofit system. Some costs, like pouring a screed, will already be factored into the build whether UFH is being installed or not.

EFFICIENCY WITH A HEAT PUMP

UFH is up to 40% more efficient than radiators when paired with a heat pump. If a heat pump is being installed, UFH is the best option. Liquid creed systems, in particular, help to maximise the efficiency of the heat pump.

HOW DOES UNDERFLOOR HEATING WORK IN COMPARISON TO RADIATORS

Underfloor heating works by circulating warm water through a series of continuous loops that are fitted underneath your floor creating a large radiant surface that heats your room from the floor upwards. This radiant form of heating is much more comfortable than the convected heat provided by radiators which draws cold air across the floor before heating it and then convects the warm air upwards towards the ceiling.

The 2025 ban on gas boilers in new builds may cause concern for some, but the widespread adoption of renewable energy technology opens up a new conversation about how we might heat our homes in the future. Using underfloor heating can prove to be more energy effective in heating a room – whereby a large radiant floor surface area heats the space above it –rather than using convected heat provided by radiators which draws cold air across the floor before heating it.

A visit to our UFH pipe manufacturer

In May we visited the manufacturer of underfloor heating pipes. We were given a comprehensive tour of the factory and got to see firsthand how our PE-RT pipe is manufactured. We were also given access to the laboratory testing area where the pipes are tested to their failure point (very similar to aircraft component testing). This was fascinating to witness as it showed just how durable the pipes are giving us complete confidence when we install them and give the 50 year guarantee.

Our New Liquid Screed Pump

Our new Putzmeister liquid screed pump arrived from Germany back in may. The decision to buy a German machine was an easy one, reliability quality engineering and performance being assured.

With this new Putzmeister liquid screed pump we are able to pump Gyvlon screeds over large distances and heights allowing us to be flexible in the application.
